Day 17 - A Place to Belong

God's Family

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Day 17

Point to Ponder: I am called to belong, not just believe.

Verse to Remember: "In Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others." Romans 12:5 (NIV)

Question to Consider: Does my level of involvement in my local church demonstrate that I love and am committed to God's family?

  1. No, but we are working on getting more involved. We attended the FPU small group and participated in some outreach activities recently, but there is more that we can do, especially when it comes to reaching out to other members of our church. Sometimes it is difficult to "feel" that sense of belonging (especially when you are two introverted people) but it is something that we are working on improving.

  2. I think we are getting there. We just started attending a new church about 5 months ago and I have joined a men's group to discuss chapters from a specific book and discuss any struggles we may be facing as men and husbands. Very empowering!

It got me excited when I read this exerpt, "God has a unique role for you to play in his family. This is called your "ministry", an God has gifted you for this assignment: ' A spiritual gift is given to each of us as a means of helping the entire church." pg. 134 I have joined an outreach team- we are planning some very practical ways to reach people in the community. This always excites me! I love being around people, engaging in conversation... even cleaning toilets. Right Jer? ;)

I just know that when I don't use the talents God has given me, I feel like I am wasting away my days- my life. I am also missing out on the blessings God has for me.

  3. Yes, I feel that I am getting connected to the church and demonstrating that I love and am committed to God's family. We have been serving by committing to different events- like Fireproof- and I was able to help with greeting and cleaning, and childcare for the 2nd showing (Jeff was able to help with childcare too- at home with our kids :) ).

I also took over the accounting which I am nervous but happy about. Jeff plans to do a lot with outreach and I hope to join a women's study (it's been a loooooong time) soon. We are also meeting more and more people who are really great and have made some friends that we've hung with outside of church. I am really happy that we've found this church and I feel that God definately has a purpose for us there.

I'm not sure exactly what my "spiritual gifts" are that I need to most utilize but I enjoy trying out different things and serving. It makes me really happy!
