DAY 38
Point to Ponder: The Great Commission is my commission.
Verse to Remember: "Send us around the world with the news of your saving power and your eternal plan for all mankind." Psalm 67:2 (LB)
Question to Consider: What steps can I take to prepare to go on a short-term missions experience in the next year?
-
I struggled a bit with this chapter. Maybe not fully agreeing with what is being said here. I think it's good to be inspired to continue my walk with God by attending concerts and enrichment seminars. If my "love tank" is low and I need a concert, a song or a seminar to fill me up... I don't think that makes me selfish. Also, the Bible says that God wants to know the desires of my heart- my wants and desires. I pray that as I walk close with God that my wants and desires will be the same as His. So I guess I am labeled as having a "me-first" faith sometimes. =P
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, I do need to find the right balance and remember my attitude needs to be how I can be used for His purposes... serving more.
As for the question for today: I honestly don't see myself taking any short-term missions with the stage our kids are in. However, I am willing to venture out into the inner-cities and see how I can be of service to them. Serving meals, giving away blanket, and just helping where there is a need.
We disagreed with this chapter as well. Jess mentioned that she doesn't feel everyone is called to serve as a missionary, and some people are more gifted that way in others. Although I think short-term missions trips are a great way to expand our horizons and increase our love for others, I don't think we'll be able to do it within the next year.
ReplyDelete"Worldy Christians'... prayers focus on their own needs, blessings, and happiness." I think this quote incorrectly indicates that we shouldn't pray for our needs, which is wrong. Our Father wants us to come to Him for all that we need. I think the problem is when that's ALL we pray about.
I don't think there's anything wrong with going to enrichment seminars either! :)
Sorry everyone- busy weekend and I fell behind.
ReplyDeleteShort term missions- not as a couple or family. If Jeff wanted to go to Zimbabwe that's his choice :)
Overseas missions- not realistic for us... health concerns, money, having to take care of toddlers and simultaneously serve........ I think it's great for the single and childless and those who maybe have one kid and a calling for missions but not for all.
But I will pray for missions and the families overseas and those that we know personally that are there.
