Day 13 - Worship That Pleases God

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

As the story told on pg. 106, Matt Redman wrote the classic song "Heart of Worship".

Day 13

Point to Ponder: God wants all of me.

Verse to Remember: "Love the Lord your God will all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength." Mark 12:30 (NIV)

Question to Consider: Which is more pleasing to God right now- my public worship or my private worship? What will I do about this?

  1. To think of God correctly, each thought must reflect the essence of God as revealed in the Bible. To worship God according to my own personal opinion is a form of “idolatry". This chapter has taught me how important it is to study the Bible. Accurate worship is what pleases God.

Public worship is inferior to private worship. God measures the sincerity of the heart. God is not wooed by presentation or flashy words.
"Where you worship is not as important as why you worship..." pg. 100

Looking at today's verse, God wants all of me!
What Rick said, "God is not interested in halfhearted commitment, partial obedience, and the leftovers of your time and money." (pg. 100), has really made me think, "Am I giving God my best... or am I giving Him my left overs?"

Do I deliberately set aside time to speak to Him? Do I try hard to obey Him or do I turn to Him as a last resort when nothing else is working out? How well am I doing with serving others and giving money for His purpose? There is much I need to work on...

  2. Like Jeff, I was reminded in this chapter about how important spending time reading the Bible is. It's great to read spritual books and studies...but nothing will replace the wisdom that comes from actually reading scripture.

I liked the part about finding new words and not playing into cliches. There are so many times when I hear the exact same phrases coming from so many christians and it really does seem ingenuine and, well- robotic. I think it's important to worship in the way God made you and in speech that's personal to you.

I think that I need more work in private worship. It's easy to be on "your best behavior" when others are around and have expectations of you. I think it's harder when you are in your private moments and it's just you and God- although it shouldn't be that way- the private moments are just as important if not more. I need to remember that.
